Travel | Kaohsiung, Taiwan

The lunar calendar has come to the time of mid-lantern festival, and everywhere in Taiwan is already up with, well, lots of pretty lanterns. Pikachu and hello kitty and the likes of other fluffy animals.

It is an interesting coincidence that meanwhile, miles away in Melbourne, there was a white night going on. According to my friends back home, apparently white night is the night where 'a lot of shiet stays open all night.' Why, really? I hope melbourne has a white night every month, perhaps daily, because that's the way it should be. Finally there are things to do after the clock ticks 5pm.

Unfortunately, I was never there to witness the white night. It's weird because I remember being in Melbourne during this time over the past 4 years, and this is the year it chose to happen? As bummed as I am for missing out on the carnival and fairy lights, thankfully I have the lanterns and fireworks in Asialand for comfort.

I was in Kaohsiung yesterday during the night lantern carnival, but due to the flood of people, I wasn't able to even take a single shot of the huge lanterns.

I did get to capture a few small things in the day though, together with the fireworks at night. Kaohsiung is a beautiful place, a combination of the new and the old, modernity and conservation. I especially enjoyed the traditional part of the city because staying in the urbanised Taipei, it made me miss the old things which have a depth of warmth and history beneath them so much. I guess this is one reason why I adore Melbourne. The nostalgia.

Pastime | Sun-kissed

Morning, east pacifics. Hope everyone is having a good time too.

I just arrived in Malaysia two days ago, and I'm very much enjoying the sunlight and the big empty house. God I miss Sabah. As I type this, I'm also dancing to the morning hits on the MTV channel and eating yogurt with wild honey. I love being an occasional morning person

That being said, does anyone else think that the air smells sweet in early morning? I never quite figured out why, maybe it's because it's the first batch of O2 being inhaled or something, or maybe it's just me.

Photos are taken on the beach two days ago via iPhone 4S. A bunch of us had a picnic on the back of a friend's truck and chased the waves. Oh holiday.

Pastime | Chinese New Year's Eve

Well It's been long, friends.
And I realised exactly a year has gone by since my last post. Talk about determination.
Lucky for me, there wasn't really much to update on, as 2012 was far from what I would describe as a productive year. But anyways. I thought perhaps I should try this blogging thing once more, after all it is another start of a year, no?

Tonight was new year's eve for us of the Chinese descent. It is the first time in 5 years that our entire family finally got to sit around the same table on this special evening again, as many of us are scattered around the globe. A mixed bag of awkwardness and uncomfortable family conversations for sure, but it's good to see we all ended up smiling at each other's presence.
Tonight has a hue of red & black.
